Jo Marinas
Head of Professional and Practice Development
The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust

Jo is an outstanding example of the opportunities available to Liverpool Nurses.

Starting his nursing career in the Philippines and the Middle East, Jo was directly recruited by the hospital and quickly progressed from a supervised nurse to registered nurse, specialising in midwifery and health visiting.

His passion and enthusiasm saw him climb the ranks and excel in senior nursing roles, as well as complete a master’s degree in healthcare practice development.

His impressive career development continued as he took up the role of clinical training manager, ultimately progressing to head of professional and practice development, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students in their training.

Portrair of Jo Marinas

“I wanted to be a nurse since I was 14 years old, but thanks to my move to Liverpool I’ve realised ambitions that I didn’t think were possible.

“The training and support I’ve received has been amazing and is a testament to the encouragement that Liverpool Nurses are given if they want the support to develop their skills.

“I love working at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and it is a privilege to welcome new nurses to the hospital. I know exactly how they are feeling, as I was in the exact same position 20 years ago.

“Being a Liverpool Nurse is so special to me because of the people I work with. My work colleagues are part of my extended family and Liverpool (and the Wirral) is my home away from home.

“If you’re thinking about becoming a Liverpool Nurse, here’s my advice – do it!”
